Preface#
Didn’t expect that I would start my year-end summary at the beginning of the month (yes, it’s that phrase again). Unfortunately, this should be the last year-end summary I write during my student days; the days ahead are uncertain, and I don’t know how much leisure I will have left for this.
What should be awarded as the most abstract thing this year? I think the Smurfs at the Paris Olympics have some fighting power; of course, MAGA winning the resurrection match also has its say; and the six-hour speedrun of the Blue House cannot be overlooked. Wow, it turns out to be loyalty! We are doomed. Indeed, the author can just casually find a few memes and plug them into a formula, but readers have to consider a lot when looking at such abstract content.
To be honest, I feel a bit scared every year when writing this, because the process of writing this is also a process of self-examination. If there are no achievements this year, I suppose it would be hard to write anything interesting. This year’s summary will mainly follow the Matt City Questionnaire, along with summaries of various parts.
Questionnaire Section#
- Compared to the past few years, do you feel that 2024 is longer or faster? Have you found your own rhythm?
I personally feel it’s faster; after all, the time spent enjoying life in college is short, and before I knew it, I’m already in my senior year preparing for graduation. I may not have a clear rhythm yet, but the first half of next year is already the final deadline, and I can’t drag it out any longer (sad
- Share a new discovery or a field you have been cultivating this year (it can be a newly discovered interest, professional field, urban space, natural secret, or a way of treating yourself or others).
The new field I discovered this year should still be Puzzle Hunt; during the competition, I tried to reason out the possibilities of the puzzles with new teammates, which also trained my ability to analyze problems. The only regret is that I haven’t completed a single competition; I hope to end this regret next year.
- What new tips for achieving a balance of body and mind have you gained this year? How have these habits or tips changed your life?
I admit that I haven’t gained any new tips this year; I basically choose one or more options among talking to others, playing games, going out for a walk, or listening to music. At least after interacting with others, I feel like I probably shouldn’t be so I?
- Share the best or worst moment of this year. Reflecting on that moment, what were your feelings?
This question was a bit difficult to choose before, but just the day before the summary was sent out (30th), I was reporting my work to my thesis advisor. Fortunately, the references I prepared on short notice piqued the teacher's interest, and since most of the papers I found were relevant to my topic, I received the teacher's praise. At that moment, on one hand, I was relieved to have passed my last personal task of the year, and on the other hand, I felt that reporting progress wasn’t such a big deal, and there was nothing to be nervous about.
- A quote, a movie, a song, a performance, a photo (etc.) that has meaning for you this year—share its content and the profound moments it brought you, or its inspiration.
I chose the song “The White Bird Crossing the Riverbank” by Master Ilem. I first came across this song while doing P&KU3 Shattered Memories, where the hint led to the white bird, so I started actively listening to it, and before I knew it, I couldn’t help but loop it. The most profound feeling this song brings me is loneliness; listening to it alone in the dead of night always makes me nostalgic for certain things.
- Through what experiences this year have you come to know yourself or others better?
I’ve experienced a lot, but through these experiences, I’ve seen another side of certain people. Relevant content can be found in the Telegram channel message and the quoted message.
- Compared to last year, have you enjoyed your time with your body this year?
Probably... not so enjoyable? As someone who doesn’t like to exercise much, I can’t escape minor ailments like coughs and colds. Just like last year, I caught the flu again in the middle of the month; fortunately, it didn’t hit me too hard. I can only say that this is how it is for people with weak immunity; I can’t be too arrogant.
- Choose a moment/current scene to represent 2024; which one would you choose?
How should I put it? I would choose the moment of the recently concluded secondary project progress report; at least after this moment, everything this year has ended, and now it’s just waiting for 2025.
- Write a message you really want to say to someone but haven’t been able to express by the end of the year.
To myself: You’ve worked hard; another year has passed, let’s do our best next year.
- Fill in the blank: 2024, ______ Matters.
2024, occurred many Matters.
About Games#
The types of games I played this year are similar to last year; I played Iron daily, occasionally played Honkai Impact 3, and sporadically played rhythm games, along with Minesweeper and Joker cards.
Let’s mainly talk about the rhythm game part; I played less mania this year, and my overall level isn’t that high. I’m currently at 1647pp, and I didn’t achieve last year’s goal of reaching reform 1dan, which is very regrettable. I’ve tried it, and my skill is enough, but I lack a bit of endurance and accuracy; I hope I can do my best to clear it before the New Year. I’ve been playing Rotaeno for a year now, and I’m already at 15.7; next year, 15.9 will be a victory (
On Steam, the game I played the most this year is definitely 14 Types of Transforming Minesweeper 2. As a game that requires extreme thinking ability, it’s really fun; secondly, I want to mention Joker cards. I played a similar card-collecting game in Honkai Impact 3 before, but the various buffs and debuffs in this game really enhance its gameplay, though it also relies a lot on luck.

Summary#
After writing a response to the “15 Questions for Independent Blog Reflection” earlier, I also tried using a questionnaire this year to interrogate myself about what I did this year. However, some questions may not yield good answers due to my qualifications; please forgive me.
This year, my own change should be that I’m more willing to communicate with others (?), whether it’s working on projects with familiar classmates or participating in puzzle competitions with newly acquainted puzzle players, I’ve increased the frequency of actively expressing my ideas and received recognition from others. I still hope to continue this next year, as some things become clearer the more they are debated.
Next year will also be quite stressful; I need to finish my graduation project work in the first half of the year, and I also need to find a job. As mentioned in the first question of this year’s questionnaire, I still need to try to find my rhythm to get through the whole year. However, as the answer to the first question states, the deadline for finding that rhythm seems to have entered the final countdown.
Writing this entire report in the last hour of the year may have resulted in some content being a bit hasty, just like this year. Regardless, thank you for reading this year-end summary, and I wish you a Happy New Year.
